Track Care: Getting the Most Hours from Your UltraTrack Tracks

  • Tension Check — Check track tension at the start of every shift. Over-tensioned tracks accelerate wear on sprockets and idlers. Under-tensioned tracks risk derailment. Refer to your JCB operator manual for the correct sag measurement.
  • Clean the Undercarriage — Packed mud, rocks, and debris add weight, increase fuel consumption, and cause uneven wear. Hose out the undercarriage at the end of each day, especially in clay or mud conditions.
  • Inspect Wear Indicators — Look for cracking between lugs, exposed steel cords, uneven lug height, and missing chunks. If the rubber between lugs is worn to less than 1/4 inch, it is time to replace.
  • Rotate Travel Direction — When possible, alternate the direction your machine travels on repetitive routes. This distributes wear more evenly across the track surface.
