Undercarriage Care: Getting the Most Hours from Your UltraDrive Idlers

  • Check for Seal Leaks — Oil weeping at the hub means the seal is gone. A dry idler seizes, flat-spots, and starts cutting into the inner rail of the track.
  • Inspect the Flange and Tread Face — The idler flange is what keeps the track running straight. Once the flange is worn thin or cracked the track will wander and can derail under side load.
  • Verify the Tensioner Works — The idler carries the track adjuster. A seized grease cylinder or a tired recoil spring leaves the track permanently over- or under-tensioned no matter what you set.
  • Clean Around the Idler and Recoil — Packed material stops the recoil assembly absorbing shock loads, and that force goes straight into the idler and the track instead.
  • Check Alignment — An idler out of line with the sprocket wears one flange and one side of the rail. Uneven flange wear is the symptom; alignment is the cause.
